On July 17, 1997, Richard Hillyard went to trial on charges brought by Cynthia Armistead-Smathers. These charges were Harassing Phone Calls and Stalking.

Mr. Hillyard agreed to waive a jury trial, after the trial process dragged on for months. A bench trial was held by Judge Anne Workman, who found the defendant Not Guilty of Harassing Phone Calls. The charge of Stalking, which originally had been Simple Assault, was then dismissed Nolle Prosequi at the recommendation of the Judge. The charges, and this trial, prove that someone can lie under oath, to swear out a warrant, and waste thousands of tax-payer dollars. That is what the lying Cynthia Armistead did in this case.

Despite the the actions of the court on July 17, 1997, Ms. Armistead-Smathers continues to falsely accuse Mr. Hillyard, despite the fact that she has no evidence that he has ever met, seen, or spoken to her, other than the day they were in court. Her actions continue to harm Mr. Hillyard and his family.
